  • We work closely with impact-driven institutions to outline a detailed strategy including the sources and costs to launch something new. Clients use these strategies to secure broad consensus from governing boards and management teams.

  • When it is time to take a capital strategy to market, we prepare borrowers to meet with investors, effectively negotiate terms, and secure a variety of investment options. We are able to support institutions seeking capital through a variety of capital sources used for social impact projects, including: tax-exempt & taxable bonds, bank and CDFI financing, tax credit equity (LIHTC, HTC, and NMTC), government programs, and philanthropic funding. Bringing the unique depth and breadth of our market knowledge, we then give institutions the tools to make an informed decision on the best capital partners to engage with as it aligns to our clients’ near and long term goals.

  • After capital partners have been chosen, we help institutions close on capital and launch their program. Our broad system-wide approach results in holistic funding and maximum support for your impact project.

  • A critical resource for nonprofits is taxable and tax-exempt bond financing. As a registered advisor with the SEC and MSRB, we provide comprehensive advice on bond financing, including financial modeling, underwriter RFPs, market research, and closing management.

They combine decades of experience securing, closing, and managing investments with large, institutional investors with their first passion, empowering communities and institutions to enact purpose-driven change.

  • Principal | CFA

    Sajan has had a 17-year career in impact investing, in which he deployed capital to a variety of community-based projects. These projects include affordable housing, school facilities, early childhood education facilities, health centers, and small businesses. He has supported the development, launch, and deployment of philanthropic impact investing programs in underserved communities and populations. In his time at Civic Builders, Sajan built a philanthropic-backed lending platform that delivered low-cost flexible loans to high performing nonprofit charter schools. Prior to joining Civic, Sajan was Market Director of the Mid-Atlantic and Central Regions at the Low Income Investment Fund (LIIF). In this role, he was responsible for lending production in DC as well as for LIIF’s expansion in the Southeast. Before joining LIIF, he was a small business loan underwriter at Seedco Financial in New York City.
